Bent Screw Productions

Why Bent Screw?

"Where on earth did you come up with Bent Screw for a name?"

I am glad you asked...Once upon a time long, long ago, I was a Director of Development and Operations for a large web company.  I got to this position through companies buying and selling each other like so many did during the earlier years of the web.  One day I was sitting in a meeting (I was the junior person in the room) and I made an observation...I saw that everyone in the room spoke with great authority and gave their sage advise, even though very few actually understood the subject.  This was because the discussion had to do with one of the company acquisitions and almost no one was there from the acquired company to fill in the missing pieces.  I will often doodle when I do not have an active role in a meeting to keep my hands busy and allow me to concentrate on what is happening in the meeting (I know it sound contradictory, but that's how I'm wired :), and as I doodled in this meeting a very Freudian image took shape...

I had drawn a doodle of what I was thinking without really paying attention.  "This place works about as well as a bent screw!"  I determined at that moment to try to always be willing to say "I don't know, but I'll find out" and whenever possible to involve the experts in any given field.  Therefore, I kept the name and the image to remind me of these decisions.

Using these principles as a guide, I will always bring in "experts" if there are portions of a project that need skills that I do not posses, but at no additional cost to you, the client.

What is Bent Screw?

Bent Screw Productions is a company for Web and Windows software development, and for the design and production of Business Creative items.  We believe that sometimes simple is best and we carry that into our design and development work.  Many of today's "Whiz Bang" Flash enabled sites are excellent at grabbing attention, but things like search, or even accessibility to those with handicaps can suffer.  There is also a trend to "Overfill" web pages.  Look at a lot of sites and they are so crammed with advertising, popups, and odd ball links, that finding anything can be almost impossible.

With that in mind, we use the flashy, catchy stuff on a limited basis where it adds usability to a site.  For example, take a look at some of our photo albums.  They use Flash because it makes sense.  Using Flash makes navigation simple and it helps protect the images from being stolen and used without permission.

So, if you are looking for a web design company, need some custom software, or you are looking for someone to help you design and produce items to help market your business, give us a call or drop us an email.  We'll be glad to sit down and talk over your goals and budget and do our best to find you the excellent solutions that you deserve.
